Here’s the press release from the Buncombe County Emergency Management Department:
Beginning Wednesday, March 28 and concluding Saturday, March 31, local emergency agencies will host the regional Search and Rescue Exercise on the western grounds of the Biltmore Estate to simulate operational conditions for a search mission in an exercise format.
“Search at Biltmore 2012” will be the 26th consecutive year that North Carolina emergency response agencies have sponsored a spring Search and Rescue exercise. The exercise will begin with a local call out to a missing subject on the Biltmore Estate property. Live players will be utilized for the lost subject(s). The exercise is funded through a grant from North Carolina Emergency Management and the United States Department of Homeland Security.
Emergency response agencies from throughout North Carolina and surrounding states will participate in the exercise. Exercises of this type provide emergency response personnel with the opportunity to learn and practice life saving skills in a low stress environment in preparation for real world events. Community members in close proximity to the western grounds of the Biltmore Estate may notice an increased presence of emergency vehicles in the area during this time.
.
NC Emergency Management, Buncombe County Emergency Services and Sheriff’s Office, Asheville, Enka/Candler, Reems Creek, Reynolds and Skyland Fire Departments and the Biltmore Company Police will host this event.
