What’s on the agenda for the second Creative Summit?

The Asheville Area Arts Council, along with the City of Asheville and a host of other arts organizations, will hold a second yearly gathering tomorrow. What is it, exactly?

“The Creative Sector Summit is an opportunity for networking and creative problem solving: for cross pollination, education, creation of sector advocacy, collaboration on initiatives and programs, to maximize funding opportunities, and as an opportunity for non-arts organizations to have a way to work with the sector effectively,” according to the arts council. “With more and more national organizations realizing the incredible community building and economic development powers of creativity and the arts, it is imperative that Asheville (and beyond) galvanize and cooperate to make the most of the opportunities this recognition represents.”

Here’s a look at tomorrow’s schedule:

A morning session will be held at Asheville Community Theatre, 35 E. Walnut St. 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Asheville Art Museum (Pam Myers)
The Artist’s Curriculum (Susan Halliday, A-B Tech)
Land of Sky Regional Council (GroWNC)
Handmade in America (Gwynne Rukenbrod)
Special events (Jon Fillman, City of Asheville)
Artist opportunities and programs (Diane Ruggiero, City of Asheville Cultural Arts Division)
HARP (Andrew Montrie, Arts 2 People)
AAAC 2012 Provisional Strategy, programs and services (Kitty Love, Asheville Area Arts Council)

Lunch break noon to 2 p.m.

Afternoon session from 2 to 5 p.m. will be held at the Asheville Art Museum, 2 S. Pack Square. This will be a cultural resources forum, featuring “networking for deeper insight into initiatives and opportunities for creative sector partners.”

Susan Halliday (Artists’ alliance and artists’ curriculum)
Luly Gonzalez, OPEN, Meka Bunch-Artisan Builders Collective, and Chris Joyell, Asheville Design Center (Artists’ curriculum and workforce development/continuing education)
Pursuit of Happiness development company (In the new media room)
Andrew Montrie, Jennifer Gordon (Beta version of the cultural resources database/web portal and cultural arts calendar)
Tara Sweeney (Handcrafted artisan revitalization program)
Gwynne Rukenbrod (2011 Creative Sector Summit Survey, results and interpretation)
Heidi Reiber, Asheville Chamber of Commerce (Economic development coalition)
Jon Fillman (Special events)

Registration is $10 for Arts Council members, $25 for nonmembers. No one turned away for lack of funds. To register, contact Kitty Love at kitty@ashevillearts.com.

    Could Ms Love post the AAAC 2012 Provisional Strategy online for those of us not able to attend the event?
