From a press release:
Business Sings Broadway fundraiser for ACT, Aug. 22 & 23
Asheville Community Theatre (ACT) has asked 32 local journalists, teachers, bankers, realtors, restaurateurs, and more to hang up their suits and ties for a few nights and perform onstage for a fundraiser like no other! These businessmen are ready to prove that “there’s no business like show business” for Business Sings Broadway, a fundraiser that will feature songs from the silly to the sublime. Business Sings Broadway will be held on the Mainstage at Asheville Community Theatre on Friday, August 22 and Saturday, August 23 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $20 and are available at the ACT Box Office, by phone at 828-254-1320, or online at ashevilletheatre.org.
Business Sings Broadway will be the only show this year that will feature Sheriff Van Duncan and County Commissioner David Gantt performing a duet. Other performances include Ashvegas founder and editor Jason Sandford and Asheville Scene’s James Fisher snapping it out to Sondheim, Vincenzo’s Ristorante owner Dwight Butner crooning a classic, and the male cast members from Spamalot in a reprise of “Lancelot.” Emcees for the Business Sings Broadway fundraiser will be Bumcombe County Commissioner Holly Jones and LaZoom Tour Guide Betsy “Augusta Wind” Puckett. Business Sings Broadway is directed by Jerry Crouch with musical direction by Lenora Thom.
Asheville Community Theatre will also unveil “The Spreadsheet,” a new signature cocktail for the fundraiser. Cash bar will be open prior to and throughout the performance.
Proceeds raised through Business Sings Broadway will support operations at Asheville Community Theatre, a volunteer based non-profit theatre entering its 69th year. Asheville Community Theatre is committed to building community by providing opportunities to collaborate on creative projects.
