Underhill Rose is the kind of band that, no matter what sort of music you’re into (and even if “heartfelt country soul” isn’t your thing), is instantly captivating. Eleanor Underhill (banjo, vocals) and Molly Rose (guitar, vocals) have been playing and singing together since their days at Warren Wilson College where they met and formed the much-loved Barrel House Mamas. Out of the split of that band came Underhill Rose, called “one of the most promising rootsy women artists in the Americana scene” by No Depression. Their sound is as sultry and storied as it is country; it’s rootsy-yet-stylish and Appalachain with a touch of cosmopolitan.
Recently-added bassist/vocalist Salley Williamson rounds out a trio of harmonies; she’ll going Underhill Rose at Jack of the Wood this Friday, June 22. Cicada Rhythm also performs. 8 p.m. show; $7.
