WNC Sierra Club endorses local state General Assembly candidates

Announcement from WNC Sierra Club Political Chair Ken Brame:

After an extensive process of reviewing voting records, positions, and interviews with candidates for judicial, legislative, and county commission positions, the Sierra Club recommends the following candidates for this fall’s elections:

Incumbent Sen. Terry Van Duyn in the Senate 49 race and incumbents  Chuck McGrady in House District 117 and Joe Sam Queen in House District 119.

The Sierra Club has given the nod to former UNC-Asheville Vice President, Brian Turner, who is challenging Rep. Tim Moffitt in District 116, Farmer John Ager who is up against Rep. Nathan Ramsey in District 115, and Dean Hicks in the District 118 race against Rep. Michele Presnell.

The Sierra Club is also recommending Kay Hagan for US Senate, Sam J. Ervin IV, Robin Hudson, and Mark Martin for NC Supreme Court and Mark Davis and Lucy Inman for the NC Court of Appeals.

It is time that we hold our legislature accountable for their votes that threaten our water and air by approving FRACKING, weakening environmental protections, and votes to allow Duke Energy to pollute our ground water.
