Showtime!

You know how there are those weeks in Asheville where everything seems to happen at once? And even if you cloned yourself, you still couldn’t possibly make it to all the awesome events? This is one of those weeks. And while this list (which spans Thursday, Sept. 27-Saturday, Sept. 29) is not all-inclusive, it’s a good indicator of the many, many options. Thursday, Sept. 27

• Husband-and-wife roots-Americana duo (and folk royalty) Sara Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion (pictured; photo by Neal Casal) are back in Asheville for a concert at The Altamont Theatre. 8 p.m., $12.

• Moogfest alum Toro Y Moi returns to Asheville for a show at The Orange Peel. The Choir Quit and The Can’t Kids open. 9 p.m. $16 in advance or $18 day of show.

• Dream-pop one-man-band-recording-project (Jack Tatum) / full-band-live-project Wild Nothing comes the The Grey Eagle in support of Nocturne. DIIV opens. 9 p.m., $10 in advance or $12 day of show.

Friday, Sept. 28

• College Radio Day is a festival taking place on the UNCA campus (home of Blue Echo Radio). Bands from across WNC will perform. 5 p.m.-midnight.

• Local outlaw country band The Legend of Horse Ghost doesn’t seem to have a web site (at least not one that’s easy to find!), but they do have a five-song EP. And a show at The Bywater. Listen to “The Beach Song” here:

• Jazz-grass quartet MilkDrive (below) plays a free show at Pisgah Brewing. 9 p.m.

• Fat Possum recording artists The Walkmen are currently on tour in support of Heaven. They’ll stop off at The Orange Peel. Wood and Coke Weed open. 9 p.m., $18 in advance or $20 day of show.

• Absurdist gypsy folk funk punk collective Sirius.B celebrates the release of new album, The Triumphant Return of Black-Eyed Norman at Jack of the Wood. PJ Bond also performs. 9 p.m., $8.

• Local Brit pop band The Cheeksters (below) invite fans to “come out and get groovy” at The Lab. The set starts at 9:30 p.m. $5.

Saturday, Sept. 29

• Art on the Island, a festival sponsored by Madison County Arts Council, is held on the island in Marshall, N.C. Artist booths, music, theater and food. 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Free.

• UK-born singer-songwriter Callaghan returns to The Altamont Theatre. Matthew Perryman Jones headlines. 8 p.m., $15.

• Self-described “American poetic roots-rock” outfit Milagro Saints (from Raleigh) will be at Jack of Hearts Pub in Weaverville. 9 p.m.

• California-based indie quintet Gardens & Villa perform at Emerald Lounge. Machines Are People Too opens. 9 p.m., $8.

• Much-loved singer-songwriter-cellist-bicycle-advocate-envionemntal-activist Ben Sollee is back at The Orange Peel in support of his just-released album, Half Made Man. Luke Reynolds opens. 9 p.m. $15 in advance or $17 day of show.

• TBird and the Beaks (soul, funk, r&b and hip-hop from Austin, Tex.) takes the stage at Jack of the Wood. Lionz of Zion also perform. 9 p.m., $7.
