Press release from Second Gear:
Second Gear, Asheville’s answer for affordable outdoor gear, will have their last day of sales in their downtown location on Sunday, January 4, 2015. Both Second Gear locations will be holding a “year end sale” with price reductions on all in-stock items. In 2015 Second Gear will continue to serve Asheville’s outdoor community through their West Asheville location at 444 Haywood Rd. Second Gear offers a way for consignors to get excellent rates for “recycling” their lightly-used kayaks, canoes, bicycles, outdoor clothing, hiking boots, and camping equipment. Discerning outdoor enthusiasts can get quality used gear without paying full retail prices.
Second Gear has grown steadily within the West Asheville community for over ten years. Over that time period Second Gear has written $1.5 million in consignment checks to their more than five thousand consignment partners.
“This consolidation represents a recognition of where our customers are and where they prefer to shop” said managing partner Eric Smythers. “With so much growth and energy focused on West Asheville in general and our section of Haywood Road specifically, we’re simply putting our time, energy, and staff where they are best invested.”
Along with used gear, Second Gear also carries a selection of new items including guidebooks, maps, disc golf equipment, climbing gear, and an array of dealer samples at low prices.
Second Gear is conveniently located at 444 Haywood Rd in West Asheville, just off of I-240 with free partking. Second Gear is locally owned and operated and is a certified Living Wage employer.
