Lantern Fest is to the night as Slide the City is to the day, and Asheville has popped up on both festival’s (inter)national tour lists.
Both event-based companies appear to be put on by the same group, Nexia Holdings, Inc., enlisting local, community sponsors from all over the country (and several in Canada) to put on each event. Ticket-holders for Lantern Fest will be provided a s’mores kit, along with a lantern, lighter and crayons for decorating their skyward luminaries.
“At The Lantern Fest, you join with thousands of other revelers, armed with lanterns representing their highest hopes, deepest regrets, or tiniest transgressions, and set them aloft in an offering to the Instagram gods,” reads Lantern Fest’s “About” page. “You’ll walk away with your record clean and smelling of Lemon Pledge and with memories burned with Lasik-like precision into your retinas. …
“Cover yourself in glow-in-the-dark body paint, decorate your lanterns, nosh on some s’mores and dance in LED lights with your friends and family. Then when the time is right we’ll join together for a lantern lighting to celebrate the discovery of fire and to put a crick in our necks for days.”
