Chef Kris Edwards and his team from the 550 Tavern Grille snagged two of the top prizes at the town of Fletcher’s 14th annual Chili Cook-off held Jan. 24 at Veritas Christian Academy. The Airport Road restaurant won first place in both the Best Overall Chili and People’s Choice categories.
The winner in the Best Individual Chili category was Michael Walls, the award for Best Business Chili went to Mike Weimers of Dickey’s Barbecue of Fletcher and Corey Shilling won the award for Best Table Décor.
About 400 people came out to sample the entries at the free event, which included traditional, white and vegetarian varieties of chili. The town accepted donations during the cook-off, and more than $500 was raised to benefit the Fletcher Park Development Fund, which aims to support and upgrade Fletcher’s parks.
