Isis Restaurant and Music Hall will celebrate Bob Marley’s 70th birthday with a full night of the ubiquitous musician’s tunes on Friday, Feb. 6, at 9 p.m.
“Very few artists have impacted the world through their music as much as Bob Marley,” reads a press release from organizers. “His songs surpass genre and disregard demography. His message of love and justice resound in the hearts of generations and his presence is still with us today.”
An “extraordinarily versatile band,” led by Jim Arrendell and also including musicians Tom Leiner, Ben Hovey, Rob Geisler, Joey K. and Scott Millsled, will play two sets from Marley’s catalogue of tunes. The group is a staple among Isis’ regular performers.
“Their blend of motown, old soul, classic rock and more has packed the dance floor for their very popular dance parties on an almost monthly basis,” reads the press release. “Every winter, Jim Arrendell and his crew present a singular show of something completely different. This year’s tribute to Bob Marley, coinciding with his 70th birthday is very close to their hearts and is not one to be missed!”
General admission tickets are available for $12 in advanced and $15 at the door. Doors open at 5 p.m. Isis is located at 743 Haywood Road. Visit isisasheville.com for more information or to purchase tickets.
Hmmm, misleading article title
Hi, B. Steel. I’m not sure how the title is misleading — were you thinking it was Isis’ 70th? I’ve changed “hold” to “host” to make it absolutely clear. Is that what you were referring to?
I believe he may have been referring to the actually name of the restaurant (ISIS) it is the same as the extremist group. However, Isis is also the name of an Egyptian goddess. It is unfortunate Isis has a negative connotation to it now!
I see. I actually just had a conversation with a coworker about headlines including “Isis” sounding strange… especially in the context of a celebratory event. Very unfortunate connotation, indeed.
how can u or define Isis ?
