“Get outdoors and unplug as we kick off spring at the arboretum!” reads the event page for Nature Play Day. Hosted by the North Carolina Arboretum, the free family friendly event promises a plethora of arboretum educator-facilitated activities — a stump hop and log balance beam challenge, fairy house and gnome home building, mud pies, stick forts, storytelling, pond exploration, photo scavenger hunt, nature crafts and live animal demonstrations, to name a few.
Organizers also have a few interactive exhibits planned, like using a GPS unit and geocaching packet to find a hidden treasure box. Plus, Savory Thyme Café will cater boxed lunches to be enjoyed in the arboretum’s picnic area.
