Black and white and awesome all over: Break out your best colorless attire for the YWCA of Asheville's Black and White Gala on Thursday, May 2. Expect high energy dance music by Westsound, a silent auction and local food to benefit the YWCA's good work in the community.
Craft in the jungle: No pith helmet is required to track down the best art in the foothills. The Weaverville Art Safari will showcase some of the region's most creative artists and fine crafters at an open studio tour April 27-28.
Paws on parade: Let your pooch strut its stuff at a walk-a-thon for dogs and owners on Saturday, April 27. The walk will be held at Carrier Park and will benefit Mission Hospital's Paws on a Mission pet therapy program.
Green it up: Celebrate spring with the Greening Up the Mountains festival in downtown Sylva on Saturday, April 27. Keep your eye out for traditional crafts, regional bands, activities for kids and sustainable living presentations.

Thanks for reading through to the end…
We share your inclination to get the whole story. For the past 25 years, Xpress has been committed to in-depth, balanced reporting about the greater Asheville area. We want everyone to have access to our stories. That’s a big part of why we've never charged for the paper or put up a paywall.
We’re pretty sure that you know journalism faces big challenges these days. Advertising no longer pays the whole cost. Media outlets around the country are asking their readers to chip in. Xpress needs help, too. We hope you’ll consider signing up to be a member of Xpress. For as little as $5 a month — the cost of a craft beer or kombucha — you can help keep local journalism strong. It only takes a moment.
