Jam band Leftover Salmon does not take its name from a day-old entree, but from the happy accident that led to the group’s inception. Back in ‘89, Vince Herman of The Salmon Heads invited Drew Emmitt, Glenn Keefe, Mark Vann — all members of The Left Hand String Band — to fill in where his band had holes in its lineup. The current lineup is Herman (vocals, guitar and washboard) and Emmitt (vocals, mandolin, fiddle and electric guitar) with Greg Garrison (bass and vocals), Jose Martinez (drums) and Andy Thorn (banjo and vocals). The band has released seven albums (most recently Aquatic Hitchhiker) and, in ‘06, the DVD Years In Your Ears …a Story of Leftover Salmon.
They’ll round out Pisgah Brewing‘s Memorial Day weekend with a Sunday, May 26 set. Elephant Revival and Dangermuffin Acoustic also perform; Town Mountain plays late night on the indoor stage. Rolling Stone Pizza, The Lowdown Foodtruck and Green Light Cafe will sell food. Bonus: $2 of every ticket sold benefits local nonprofit Funding America Through Entertainment (FATE).
