Catawba Brewing Co. and the French Broad Chocolate Lounge have teamed up for chocolate and beer pairings before. Now they’re about to do it again. And again and again.
On Tuesday, July 7, the two companies will debut a new monthly pairing event. Every first Tuesday of the month, Catawba’s South Slope tasting room will serve four chocolates with four beers at 7 p.m.
The chocolates will feature a variety of flavors from French Broad Chocolate Lounge, and head chocolate maker/production manager Crawford Rizer will select the beers to be paired with each creation.
The beers will include familiar offerings from Catawba as well as new specialties and barrel-aged selections. “Chocolate and beer both share similar production processes. … They [both require] roasting and fermentation. These processes result in shared flavors,” says Sam Bryant, specialty brewer at Catawba. “It’s only natural to experience them together to bring out the subtleties of each.”
Drop-ins will always be welcome, but Catawba says the event will start right at 7 p.m., and attendance will be capped at 25 people. Tickets are $14 per person and available in advance by emailing mary@catawbabrewing.com.
