Musician Joshua Messick, a recent transplant to Asheville, announces that he will perform a hammered dulcimer concert at St. Mathias Episcopal Church (1 Dundee St., Asheville) on Sunday, Sept. 8. The 3 p.m. show is is by donation (suggested $10). All ages are welcome.
Messick has played hammered dulcimer for 19 years and was the 2003 National Hammered Dulcimer Champion. He is a composer and producer, and has recorded four albums, including Honest: Songs of Hope in collaboration with Erin Rogers. “He weaves progressive, cinematic stylings and modern techniques into traditional melodies, original compositions, and powerful improvisations,” according to his website. He “blends genres, his compositions drawing on Celtic, Indian, Japanese and new age styles. He also plays Appalachian folk, hymns, classical and traditional favorites.”
