Asheville Humane Society launches Thrive! Together initiative.

Press release from Asheville Humane Society:

On September 23, Asheville Humane Society launched their new campaign, Thrive! Together, the organization’s vision for pets and their people. Community members, including Buncombe County commissions and other animal welfare groups, attended the launch event from 9:00 a.m. until 10 a.m. at 14 Forever Friend Lane.

The Thrive! Together campaign is led by Asheville Humane Society’s manifesto: We believe that pets and their people deserve a safe and healthy community in which to live and thrive…together. Thrive! Together focuses on three priorities, which will be fulfilled in 1,000 days: safe, healthy, and thriving.

Executive Director Tracy Elliott said, “This vision is about pets and their people in the community. It will be achieved in the community, by the community. We will continue to save lives on this amazing animal care campus, but now we endeavor to help the lives of those who never get here and in fact to ensure that animals never arrive here. We will solve problems before they become tragedies and help the animals out in our community to thrive!”

Thrive! Together- Safe Healthy ThrivingAsheville Humane Society had three special pets in attendance who were living examples of safe, healthy and thriving. All three benefitted from services and programs at Asheville Humane Society and were inspirational examples of the organization’s expanding programs and services.

“Community engagement is the future of animal welfare and the key to saving the lives of pets in our community”, remarked Director of Operations Angie Wilt. “The goal is to keep more pets with their families. We will do this with expanded community outreach, advocacy, pet safety awareness, education, and Safety Net services. We will provide programming on humane education and animal safety in schools, community centers and other venues. We will target and get into communities with limited resources, providing services that allow pets and their people to thrive together.”
Priestly Ford will be leading the fundraising of the campaign. “This pyramid is our plan to fund Thrive! Together. As you can see, it’s a plan that includes today, tomorrow, and forever”, said Ford.

Tammy Jones and Ken Ulmer, from Mix 96.5 and WLOS, have also joined the Thrive! Together campaign as Tour Directors. Their job is to make sure it’s fun, creative and that the community knows about the journey and what Asheville Humane Society is working to accomplish. Citizens are invited to join Thrive! Together and become involved through volunteering, fostering or donating to the campaign.

Our planAbout Asheville Humane Society
For over 30 years Asheville Humane Society has been saving homeless Buncombe County animals. Today we operate both our own state-of-the-art Adoption and Education Center and the County’s only open door shelter where no local animal is ever turned away. We rescue, reunite, rehabilitate and re-home abandoned, abused, injured and lost animals. We provide education, training and support to keep pets in their homes. Asheville Humane Society has earned the highest rating of Four Stars from Charity Navigator, a designation achieved by only 25% of all charities nationwide.
