Western North Carolina Sierra Club Group is proud to announce our community leaders awards for the year 2013:
Susan Fisher — Outstanding Environmental Legislator of 2013 – Susan had a 100% pro-environmental voting record during this past year’s state legislative session and has a life time record of 94%. The citizens of Western NC can always depend on her protecting our environment and our economy that is based on protecting our beautiful mountains, clean air and water.
Karen Chavez — Outstanding Environmental Journalist of 2013
Karen has written Best Hikes with Dogs, blogged Girls Gone Outdoors, and reported on environmental issues ongoingly.Green Sage Cafe– Outstanding Environmental Business of 2013 -Randy Talley and Roger Derrough, owners of Green Sage Café.
Green Sage utilizes solar panels for hot water, composts 100% of food scraps, has 100% LED lighting in the dining area, and has won Green Energy Grants and awards.Dot Sulock — Outstanding Environmental Educator of 2013
Dot Sulock teaches “Energy for Planet Earth” at UNCA and OLLI at the College for Seniors of UNCA. She has posted her energy links on WNC Sierra Club’s website, and has presented programs for Sierra Club.Lisa McWherter– Outstanding Outings Leader for Sierra Club for 2013
Lisa started WENOCA Sierra Club’s hiking program in the fall of 2010. Since that time she has led an average of 3 hikes a month.Grace Curry — Long Standing Leader for WENOCA Sierra Club
Grace has been on the Sierra Club’s Executive Committee for 7 years. During that time she has taken on multiple positions including treasurer and media coordinator. She has been invaluable to our environmental efforts.
