New Economy to screen Alperovitz film with discussion

Press Release

Co-Creating The New Economy

Our next Co-creating the New Economy event will be a free showing of a new film by Gar Alperovitz, The Next American Revolution: Beyond Corporate Capitalism and State Socialism If you remember, Gar visited Asheville last April, speaking at Malaprops on his new book, What Then Must We Do and the need for deeper systemic changes in our economy. He also spoke about the Evergreen Cooperatives in Cleveland, a unique project that incubates and sustains cooperatives to provide ownership opportunities for low income residents and to localize the economy. In this new film, Gar consolidates his ideas and presents some practical strategies for building the New Economy.

The event will place on Friday, January 10th, 2014 at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Asheville, One Edwin Place (corner of Charlotte St.). The program starts at 7pm, first with the film (runtime: 47 minutes), followed by Q&A with a panel of people involved with New Economy initiatives, including efforts to establish a local model of cooperative development based on the Evergreen Cooperatives. Attached to this email is a copy of the flyer we are using to publicize the event. Please share this with everyone who you think would be interested.

For 2014, the Co-creating the New Economy organizing group hopes to hold educational programs such as this one every three months. We are also planning some other initiatives which we will inform you about as they take shape.
