In 1978, Judi Chamberlin published the book On Our Own: Patient Controlled Alternatives to the Mental Health System. In 2013, Allen Francis published Saving Normal: An Insider’s Revolt Against the Overmedicalization of Ordinary Life.
Psychiatrists today don’t have it easy. On one side are the pharmaceutical companies pushing their magic pills; on the other side are patients who are inclined to go off their medications.
