Meadow’s tapped to serve on transportation committee’s new public-private partnerships panel

Here’s the press release from the office of Congressman Mark Meadows:

Washington, D.C. – Representative Mark Meadows (NC-11) released the following statement after being selected to serve on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee’s newly-established special panel on the use of and opportunities for public-private partnerships (P3s) across all modes of transportation, economic development, public buildings, water and maritime infrastructure and equipment.

The panel will examine the current state of public-private partnerships in the United States to identify: (1) the role P3s play in development and delivery of transportation and infrastructure projects in the U.S., and on the U.S. economy; (2) if/how these partnerships enhance delivery and management of transportation and infrastructure projects beyond the capabilities of government agencies or the private sector acting independently; and (3) how to balance the needs of the public and private sectors when considering, developing and implementing P3 projects. It will also play a crucial role in the reauthorization of surface transportation programs, which the Committee plans to develop this year.

“The private sector continues to show significant, growing interest in investing in infrastructure in the United States and internationally. But aside from a selection of highway projects, utilization of P3s in U.S. transportation, economic development and water infrastructure has been limited,” said Chairman Bill Shuster (PA-9). “Chairman Duncan and the members of the P3 panel will examine the role of public-private partnerships in our infrastructure and where greater opportunities may exist to leverage resources at the federal, state and local level. The panel’s recommendations will be used as the Committee continues to develop future legislation.”

“As a businessman, I see significant value in collaboration between the private sector and the government on important issues such as infrastructure,” Meadows said. “Last year, I joined the new bipartisan Congressional Caucus on Public-Private Partnerships to examine how to best utilize P3s in addressing a range of transportation issues. It is an honor to be selected to serve on this panel alongside my Transportation Committee colleagues from both sides of the aisle, and I look forward to exploring innovative ways to leverage these partnerships to meet our nation’s pressing infrastructure needs.”

Republican members of the panel:
John J. Duncan, Jr., TN, Chairman
Candice S. Miller, MI
Lou Barletta, PA
Tom Rice, SC
Mark Meadows, NC
Scott Perry, PA

Democratic members of the panel:
Michael Capuano, MA, Ranking Member
Peter A. DeFazio, OR
Eleanor Holmes Norton, DC
Rick Larsen, WA
Sean Patrick Maloney, NY
