Vikesh Kapoor Announces US Tour Dates w/ Eleni Mandel
After releasing his critically-acclaimed debut The Ballad Of Willy Robbins last fall and touring with BRONCHO, Saintseneca, and The Melodic, Portland-based songwriter Vikesh Kapoor will head back out on the road this month, playing at Seattle’s Northwest Folklife Festival, San Francisco’s Noise Pop, and a string of dates with Eleni Mandell. Having been described as “a series of sharply etched portraits of struggling Americans” (The New Yorker) and “chamber-folk arrangements flush with strings and pedal steel” (Boston Globe), The Ballad Of Willy Robbins is truly brought to life with Vikesh’s captivating live performance. If you didn’t get a chance to catch him live in 2013, you can watch Vikesh perform tracks from the album, including “I Dreamt Blues” and “Carry Me, Home,” live on KEXP’s The Roadhouse with Greg Vandy.
The Ballad Of Willy Robbins chronicles the brutal but hopeful story of a working-class man who loses his ambition, his health, his family, and his shelter. While Willy Robbins is a fictional character, Kapoor’s story is loosely based on a newspaper article that inspired him and is peppered with experiences from his own life– from the hardships his parents faced as immigrants to the everyday challenges of small-town America.
