From 310 ART:
“River of Art 2” at 310 ART
310 ART is pleased to announce the second national members show for The Women in the Art Foundation. The exhibition features 50 original small works of 25 member artists. The show will have works in a variety of media such as oil, acrylics, watercolors, pastel, drawings, monotypes, woodblock, collage, mix media and sculpture. The first national “River of Art” show in the River Arts District was held in the spring of 2011.
Founded in 1971 by artists, writers and other art world professionals meeting in lower Manhattan during a time of great unrest and creative ferment, Women in the Arts quickly grew into a national organization. It incorporated in 1973 as Women in the Arts Foundation, Inc. (WIA). Throughout its history, WIA has proved to be adaptable and creative in its ongoing work to change outdated concepts and attitudes about women as professional artists. Well-known artists such as Lee Krasner, Faith Ringgold, Audrey Flack and Joan Mitchell exhibited works in WIAF shows the early 70s.
Today the organization’s mission focuses on career education, networking, support and camaraderie. Most members are based in the NYC area. Asheville area has the second largest membership in the nation. New members are welcomed. Meeting are held in Asheville every 2-3 months. Contact the gallery for information
