JOIN A COMMUNITY DISCUSSION ON
CHILDREN’S ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY FOR BUNCOMBE COUNTY
AND NORTH CAROLINA

Community members have opportunity to learn, share and act to benefit
Buncombe County’s children

Asheville, N.C. – Every child deserves to be healthy, safe, well-educated and economically secure. But this is not always a reality for many of our local children. In fact, a staggering 1 in 4 of Buncombe County’s children are living in poverty.

Local non-profits Children First/Communities In Schools (CIS) and the Success Equation are partnering with state non-profit N.C. Child to hold a community discussion on children’s economic opportunity. This important community discussion will be focused on building economic opportunity for children in Buncombe County and across North Carolina, so all children have opportunities to be healthy, safe and secure.  This discussion is free and open to the public; dinner will be provided and Spanish interpretation services offered upon request.

Children First/Communities In Schools is a local non-profit that believes that all children deserve to reach their full potential. We help achieve this by surrounding children and their families with supports that help them succeed in their schools, communities and homes. With staff placed in schools and communities with high rates of poverty, we help children and families meet their basic needs, provide educational supports and teach parenting and resiliency skills. We are unique in that along with our direct services we also provide strong public policy advocacy to local and state leaders to ensure policies are in place to support families.
