Around 200 vehicles are expected for the 7th Annual Mountain Classic Car Show, a fundraiser for Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry’s services and programs for homeless veterans. The show is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The car show is held each year at the Veterans Restoration Quarters (VRQ), located at 1329 Tunnel Road in Asheville, where 250 homeless male veterans are housed in a transitional living facility.

The show is open to the public and is free for spectators. All cars and trucks are eligible for entry at $25 per vehicle, with trophies going to the top 10 vehicles and a special trophy and prize for the Veterans’ Choice Award winner. American Legion Post 526, which is based at the VRQ, will sponsor a 50-50 raffle.

Entrants can register online at abccm.org or download an entry form at www.abccm.org/events/mountain-classic-car-show.

Webo’s BBQ will be available for purchase for lunch. Asheville dance band Dashboard Blue will provide music.

Miles RV Center is the lead sponsor for the car show this year.

The VRQ is a program of ABCCM’s Homeless Services ministry, providing housing, meals, case management, education, training programs and connection to both mental and physical health providers in order to move residents from a state of homelessness to a position of self-sustainability. Around 86 percent of residents who successfully complete the program remain stably housed for at least 18 months following their discharge.

Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry (ABCCM) is one of the key non-profit organizations addressing poverty, hunger, homelessness and access to health care for the under-served in Buncombe County, serving annually around 50,000 individuals. Begun as a small collaboration of churches in 1969, ABCCM has played a significant role in meeting emergency assistance needs for families in crisis, coordinating religious services and education activities at the jail, providing transitional and permanent supportive housing of the homeless through 300 beds, increasing access to health care for half the uninsured and medically underserved; as well as work readiness, mentoring and job placement services. ABCCM serves veterans across 26 WNC counties. ABCCM is generously supported by 279 congregations of all denominations and faith groups; plus 5,000 trained volunteers and provides emergency assistance to anyone in need regardless of age, sex, religion or ethnic background.
