Looking for something to do on Election Day afternoon before the results come in? Asheville City Council will meet at 5 p.m. and, like all Council meetings, this one is open to everyone.
But the meeting might not provide a distraction for long, since the only items on Council’s roster are the matters included on its consent agenda. Those issues, which require a vote during a formal meeting of City Council, have typically been vetted by city staff and committees prior to appearing on the consent agenda.
Among the items on the Nov. 8 agenda are:
- Naming a creek in Kenilworth “Louise Gibson Creek”
- Contracting with the North Carolina Governor’s Highway Safety Program to implement the fourth year of a four-year grant for the DWI Task Force
- Authorizing city staff to apply for state Emergency Solutions Grant funds in the amount of $121,992 to support local agencies in providing emergency shelter and rapid rehousing services for those experiencing homelessness
- Approving a contract for design services for a stormwater project at the Edwin/Celia/Canterbury roads intersection
- Approving funds for storm drain construction on Roberts Street in connection with RAD Lofts
- Entering into an annual contract with Dr. Paul Martin for staffing the City of Asheville Employee Health Center
- Donating microfilm of City Council meeting minutes from 1849 to June 24, 2008, to the North Carolina Room at Pack Library
Council will also hear general public comment at the end of the meeting.
Asheville City Council meets at 5 p.m. in Council chambers on the second floor of Asheville City Hall. The full agenda, along with supporting documents, can be accessed here.
