Vortex Doughnuts hosts rescheduled Tour de Spro cycling and coffee crawl, May 20

After originally postponing the third annual Tour de Spro coffee/bicycling crawl event due to bad weather, Vortex Doughnuts will now host the rescheduled event on Saturday, May 2o. The crawl begins at 1 p.m. at Vortex, 32 Banks Ave., and continues to the other participating businesses, which include Izzy’s West Asheville, Find Your Line Bike Shop, Owl Bakery, Trade and Lore Coffee, PennyCup Coffee, High Five Coffee and Beer City Bicycles.

The ride finishes back at 32 Banks Ave. at Catawba Brewing Co.’s outdoor area for a celebration with coffee and beer. Each rider will receive a passport, which can be stamped at each location to earn prizes at the end of the ride.

The event is open to cyclists of all ages and skill levels. There is no charge to participate, but donations will be accepted to benefit Nicaraguan coffee producer and direct-trade social enterprise Gold Mountain Coffee Growers.

“Gold Mountain Coffee Growers holds computer classes for girls in the underserved coffee growing communities in the Matagalpa region,” said Vortex manager Eli Masem in a press release.
