Press release from Asheville for Gun Safety:
Asheville for Gun Safety, Moms Demand Action-Asheville, and Students Demand Action-Asheville have released the results of their 2018 Primary Candidate Questionnaire. The three groups joined together to survey Democratic candidates in contested elections for DA, Sheriff and County Commissioner in Asheville and Buncombe County on issues concerning gun safety. Because all Democratic candidates for US House of Representatives Districts 10 and 11 have received the Moms Demand Action Gun Sense Candidate distinction, they did not participate in the Questionnaire; however, we are directing voters to www.vote411.org for information on each one.
After the shootings in Parkland, FL, a group of Asheville citizens organized a rally against gun violence and formed Asheville for Gun Safety to support the local group Students Demand Action-Asheville (March for our Lives Asheville) and Moms Demand Action-Asheville. We are all striving to raise awareness around this issue and support candidates who believe in common sense gun laws. We also try to educate people about relevant legislative issues and inform local citizens on the position of candidates in the primary and mid-term elections in 2018. In April, all three of the groups collaborated to send a questionnaire to all Democratic candidates running in local contested primaries.
Some campaigns did not respond to multiple inquiries. The results are published on the Asheville for Gun Safety Facebook page, Students Demand Action-Asheville Facebook page, and privately in the closed group (Mountain Region) Moms Demand Action Volunteers.
These three groups are dedicated to electing politicians who have had #enough and pledge #neveragain to school shootings.
