Press release from the City of Hendersonville Fire Department:
The City of Hendersonville Fire Department is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant in the amount of $299,291.00 from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) / Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for the hiring of three firefighters. The SAFER grant is intended to help local fire departments improve their staffing and deployment capabilities in order for them to respond to emergencies more effectively.
The SAFER grant is awarded for a period of three years. The grant will pay for 75 percent of the salary and benefits for each of the three new firefighters in the first and second year of the grant; the third year of the grant funds 35 percent of salary and benefits. The new firefighters will increase the total fire department workforce to ten Firefighters per shift.
Congressman Mark Meadows will be presenting the SAFER grant check to the City of Hendersonville Fire Department on August 17, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. The location will be City of Hendersonville Fire Station 2 which is located at 632 Sugarloaf Rd Hendersonville, NC 28792.
