POP Project commits to helping 10,000 people in Western North Carolina in 2019

Press release from The POP Project:

The POP Project has committed to helping 10,000 people across Western North Carolina in 2019 through their “10 for 10” book giving campaign. The campaign celebrates their tenth year of operation and aims to deliver 10,000 free books into the community.

“Imagine overflowing school libraries, homes filled with captivating books, and no shortage of reading material, wherever you go,” said Jim MacKenzie, Executive Director at the POP Project. “That’s always been the objective of our mission, and this year we’re doubling down on our efforts.”

The POP Project’s literacy-based mission focuses on improving community members’ access to books. Since 2009, the nonprofit has delivered more than $235,000 free books into the community.

“Ten years in operation is a huge milestone for a small, volunteer-led nonprofit,” said Sarah Giavedoni, Director of Donations and Volunteers. “Instead of patting ourselves on the back and moving forward with business as usual, we had an idea: Why don’t we make 2019 our most ambitious year yet? We want to impact more lives than ever before by delivering more books than any year in our history.”

In order to meet their book delivery goal, the POP Project is asking for help and support from the community. They are seeking new businesses and organizations across WNC in need of free books. They are also looking for new volunteers and sponsors to help them build a successful campaign.

“Every dollar translates to more than $10 in books delivered back into the community,” said Giavedoni. “By giving a little or a lot, you’re ensuring that our time goes toward getting books into the hands of children, veterans, and families who need and want them.”

Corporate and in-kind sponsorships are welcome, as well.

POP’s “10 for 10” campaign is projected to run through the end of the year. Supporters can check on their progress by following the POP Project on Facebook and Twitter, or through their website at thePOPproject.org/10-for-10.
