Buncombe County Schools calendar change

Press release from Buncombe County Schools:

Dear Buncombe County Schools Parents and Staff,

We have an important calendar change to share.  Tuesday, April 30, will now be a full day of instruction, instead of an early dismissal day. We are moving that early dismissal to the following day – Wednesday, May 1. As educators across the state consider advocacy activities for May 1, we want to offer our staff members an opportunity to participate as well, after students have been dismissed.

As always, our primary focus remains on delivering a quality education to all of our students and ensuring that they are in a safe environment with access to breakfast and lunch. We are also striving to ensure our classified staff members are able to work on May 1 and, therefore, their pay won’t be adversely affected.

We believe that it is in the best interest of our students and families that students are in school on May 1. However, please be aware that if the number of staff absences rises to the level that we cannot safely operate schools and supervise students, we may need to close and a subsequent announcement will be delivered.
