Swannanoa Valley Museum celebrates 100 year anniversary of women’s suffrage

From the Swannanoa Valley Museum & History Center:

Come join us on August 8th during Black Mountain’s 2nd Saturday event to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Women’s Suffrage. From 10:00 am – 6:00 pm the museum will be displaying the exhibit “Rightfully Hers” (courtesy of the National Archives) on our sidewalk in front of the museum, highlighting a hundred years of women’s rights to vote. The sidewalk exhibit will continue with the story exhibit panel of Lillian Exum Clement, the first female legislator in North Carolina, along with one of her dresses, and ballot boxes. Fill out a ballot and place it in the box to win a free family membership to the museum!

Children’s activities and other events include making a whirligig toy, a 10:30am program about the rocks that shape Buncombe County (behind the museum at the Geologic Time exhibit), and a 1:00pm program about the new pollinator garden located behind the museum near the Black Mountain Center For The Arts. The museum gift shop will be open as well from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm. Come join in the festivities!
