Montford Moppets livestream “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” March 5-7

Press release from Montford Moppets Shakespeare Youth Theater:

After successfully staging the student-adapted “Romeo
and Juliet: Quarantine Edition” and a multi-genre experimental
production of “The Tempest,” The Montford Moppets Shakespeare Youth
Theater Company continues its foray into the digital realm this March
with the timeless story of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

The Moppets always give theater enthusiasts the opportunity to explore
classic works in an exciting way, and the 2021 production of “Midsummer”
is no exception. In a Moppets first, “Midsummer” will be performed in
the tradition of an old-fashioned radio play. The aural interpretation
has been an exercise in exploring traditional techniques for use in a
modern environment, says Artistic Director Ashleigh Goff, and it has
presented a unique set of challenges for the cast and crew.

“We are exploring many different facets of how an actor uses the voice
to create sound and character,” Goff says. “It’s been a very
enlightening process for all of us to experience how sound, placement
and technique create a more balanced and interesting character. The
lessons from this session will change the way Moppets look at the
standard rehearsal process.”

The Moppets’ production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” features young
Asheville actors in multiple roles, including Moppets veterans Gabe Rood
as Puck and Kai Strange as Lysander.

The Moppets’ production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” will be
live-streamed at 6pm March 5-7. Visit The Montford Moppets facebook page
to watch.
