Instead of catching up on sleep or taking a beach vacation, many college students will be swinging hammers and wielding drills during their spring break. Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity is thrilled to announce the return of Collegiate Challenge, a unique program that combines transformative, hands-on experience on our jobsites with opportunities to reflect on the challenges of affordable housing.
As part of a special initiative this year, alumni of our Collegiate Challenge program are invited to join in the fun. Special volunteer spots are reserved for alumni to join the student groups:
Warren Wilson College (February 28 – March 4)
Vanderbilt University (March 7-March 11)

Each group will participate in a dinner with families who are in the process of becoming Habitat homeowners, allowing the volunteers an opportunity to get to know the people they are helping through their volunteer service. Groups will work at Habitat’s New Heights neighborhood in West Asheville.
“The experience of building something for the benefit of another human cannot be paralleled,” Ajay, a University of Florida student and past Collegiate Challenge volunteer said. “The core volunteers and staff blew us away with their hospitality, life wisdom, and warm hearts. If done correctly, this experience should help restore your faith in humanity.”
