Longstanding fetish: The Chocolate Fetish, one of Asheville’s preeminent sweet spots, is celebrating its silver anniversary. The Haywood Street chocolate-lovers’ delight has spent 25 years dishing out what Xpress readers have repeatedly voted the best chocolates in WNC. Where else can you find truffles infused with essence of roses, and fine French red wine next to a Dragon’s Kiss (sensual dark chocolate laced with a hint of wasabi and garnished with sesame seeds)? Then there’s the Ancient Pleasures truffle, filled with a sumptuous ganache laced with cayenne. For more information, visit www.chocolatefetish.com, visit the store at 36 Haywood St., or call 258.2353.
Through the grapevine: “Times have changed for organic wines,” concludes Rob Campbell, aka “The Wine Guy, in a recent posting on his Web site (www.theashevillewineguy.com). “There was a time when organic wines were relegated to a back shelf in wine shops,” he notes. But now he finds them “every bit as good as their conventional counterparts, as affordable and as varied.” Skeptical? Campbell and the staff of the two wine guy shops — at 555 Merrimon Ave. and 1200 Hendersonville Road — would be glad to back up the claim.
