From Oaxaca to Asheville: Photographer Henry Stindt traveled to Oaxaca, Mexico to capture the festivals and ceremonies that make that region unique. A closing reception for his exhibit, The Mestizo Spirit, will be held in Brevard College's Spiers Gallery on Friday, Feb. 22

Not so funny? Cartoons have a way of boiling cultures down to their essence, which can sometimes lead to broad generalizations. WCU's Mountain Heritage Center will take a closer look at portrayals of the South as part of its Comic Stripped: A Revealing Look at Southern Stereotypes in Cartoons exhibit, on display now through Tuesday, May 14.

Tie that fly: If you're itching to get on the river and catch a fish, start your season indoors at Southern Culture on the Fly's Tie-One-On-Athon on Sunday, Feb. 24. The public is invited to bring their vises and join in the fly tying to benefit Project Healing Waters, a nonprofit that fosters physical and emotional rehabilitation of veterans through fly fishing.
