Avett Brothers fan who don’t get to see the band perform on New Year’s Eve in Asheville (or heck, even for fans who do make it to the sold-out Thomas Wolfe Auditorium show) get a second chance in May. The band’s sole N.C. date during the first half of 2010 will be at Merle Fest in Wilkesboro, N.C.
The Avett Brothers will close out the 2010 roots music festival with a Sunday, May 2 set at 3:30 p.m. Log on here starting at noon today to purchase pre-sale Sunday-only tickets for the Merle Fest date. (Pssst! The password is: northcarolina.) Pre-sale ends on Monday, Nov. 2.

Thanks for reading through to the end…
We share your inclination to get the whole story. For the past 25 years, Xpress has been committed to in-depth, balanced reporting about the greater Asheville area. We want everyone to have access to our stories. That’s a big part of why we've never charged for the paper or put up a paywall.
We’re pretty sure that you know journalism faces big challenges these days. Advertising no longer pays the whole cost. Media outlets around the country are asking their readers to chip in. Xpress needs help, too. We hope you’ll consider signing up to be a member of Xpress. For as little as $5 a month — the cost of a craft beer or kombucha — you can help keep local journalism strong. It only takes a moment.
Since when do Greensboro area concerts count as local news?
It’s *Wilkesboro*, and lots of local folks attend this festival. Merle Watson is very important to our readers and that Watson family musical contribution to this area is unquantifiable.
Lots of local people attend Coachella and and the Austin City Limits Festivals each year but I don’t see an announcement when those lineups are announced.
Also, this entry wasn’t about Watson, this was about the Avetts, who the Xpress waxes poetic about like they are school yard crushes.
Secret Agent 23 Skidoo and his Family Band just played Austin Kiddie Limits.
I’m pleased to see any mention of Merlefest.
the Avetts are great! I’m fortunate to have seen them each of the past two years at the Orange Peel – and on my birthday!
