“If you ask us, a Tuesday is just right for an alt-country folk night,” says the Facebook invite for a special five-band show. Local Americana band Goner, local country act Maggie & Her Mistakes, solo act Living Dog from Mill Spring, old-time act Empty Bottle String Band from Johnson City, Tenn.; and Harper’s Fellow, a country-folk quintet from Asbury Park, N.J., all take the stage.
Despite the “fellow” part of Harper’s Fellow, the band is female-fronted (Cortney Metzler on lead vocal and guitar). Brendan Smith (bass), Yanell Reyes (vocals), Alexander Ford (drums) and Eric Castellazzo (guitars) fill out the lineup. They’re currently on tour in support of debut album Thank for Tonight. Which brings them to a slightly unusual (for alt-country/folk) venue: Club Metropolis.
The show is Tuesday, Aug. 27. 7:30 p.m. doors, $5.
