The band pictured here and in this week’s feature story recapping the South By Southwest festival was identified as a group from Scandinavia. Turns out the Nordic attribution was a joke (the band’s own) — an Xpress reader recognized the group as Skinny Lister from London.
Members are Dan Heptinstall, Lorna Thomas, Max Thomas, Sam ‘Mule’ Brace and Dan Gray. You can read about the band’s current tour and SXSW performances here. And, while the group’s current U.S. tour doesn’t bring them to Asheville this time around, we’re told that Max lived in the area for several months. That was a few years ago, but it turns out that Asheville is where he honed is accordion skills before joining Skinny Lister. The band was started, originally, by Heptinstall who is now married to Lorna. Lorna is Max’s sister.
