Tired of turkey? Find everything from trout to lamb, chicken, beef, pork, rabbit and even goat meat for sale at tailgate markets this week.
That’s right, Walter Harrill of Imladris Farm in Fairview offers local, sustainably raised goat meat alongside his well-known jams (find Imladris at the North Asheville Tailgate Market/9th Annual Holiday Bazaar on the UNCA campus).
No more leftover pumpkin pie? No worries. Holiday markets have all kind of sweet treats to offer. Here, Liam enjoys a cookie from Sweetheart Bakery (find them at the North Asheville Tailgate Market this week).
Don’t want to miss your favorite Co-op Market vendor? Many will find their way to the Holiday Bazaar and Asheville City Market in the coming weeks. Now is also a great time to pick up local honey for some natural sweetness. Look for many varieties, including the regional favorite, Sourwood.
Of course, now’s also the time to pre-order special gift baskets, find unique handmade local items for loved ones, and pick up a wreath or Christmas tree. Local trees should be available at holiday markets through Dec. 18. There are lots more fresh foods to shop for, too — from turnips and radishes to winter squashes, cabbages, kale, sweet potatoes, eggs and more.
This week kicks off the final month for area tailgates. Market organizers are promising lots of fun before winter comes. Asheville City Market will have live music and host a holiday bike drive in conjunction with the markets on December 4, 11 and 18. Bring your unwanted bikes or parts to benefit Asheville ReCyclery’s efforts, as well as watch bike demos, pick up a used bike as a gift and enter to win a refurbished cycle.
Listen to live music at the North Asheville Tailgate Market/9th Annual Holiday Bazaar, also held December 4, 11 and 18.
Note: both ACM and North Asheville will change their hours for these holiday markets: 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and 11 a.m.-4 p.m., respectively.
Flat Rock Tailgate Market will host a special holiday market Saturday from 2 until 5 p.m., and the Madison County Farmers and Artisans Market will continue with an indoor market through Dec. 18.
The Yancey County Farmers Market holiday tailgate runs Saturday, in conjunction with Burnsville’s Winterfest activities.
West Asheville Tailgate Market will host a special holiday event next week, Dec. 7, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m.
