Xpress-rated: Video sneak peek at the Aug. 13 issue

Mountain Xpress likes to showcase a little bit of Asheville each week as we bring you our weekly preview of the upcoming edition. This week, one of the hottest newsmakers is a location in downtown Asheville — the little chunk of land right in front of Asheville City Hall known for its magnolia tree. It’s the proposed site of the controversial Parkside condo project.

Check out the video, and you’ll see previews of stories in the news and arts and entertainment sections. We’ll also introduce you to our new Arts & Entertainment editor, Rebecca Sulock.

  1. truly wonderful soundtrack this time … what genius, adding in the beeping of construction equipment while standing in front of the threatened magnolia tree. … nitty gritty symbolism, eh? Really making a statement, eh? I bet Ken is beside himself, hankering to explain the deeper meaning of THAT! ;-)

and — for those of us forever loyal to Steve Shanafelt, replacing our beloved crusty old A&E;guy with such a nice young lady as Rebecca was … well… bye, Steve, nice knowing ya.

Too subtle in this day and age. I’d have had a woodsman behind him sharpening an axe — or at least Jason Bugg dressed up as a woodsman.

Thanks. I did what I could. On the bright side, I suspect Rebecca will take the A & E section to the next level.

  4. which level is that, Steve… the one where you must win your way past the Jason Buggs using only a +1 text editor and a -2 dictionary?

  5. that’s what THEY wish us earthlings to believe, Ken.

think “pod people meet Godzilla’s mom.”

c’mon, you’ve seen THAT movie a hundred times.

Could be a diversionary tactic. I didn’t see Jason eat the doppleganger, did you?

  7. That Rebecca Sulock sure looks mighty impressive. I’ll put my money that she’ll take things to the next level, and then pick those things right up and take them to levels previously unimaginable.

    This, only more so.
