DIY Fever
With the holidays behind us and the new year upon us, it’s a great time to start new projects. Winter provides plenty of opportunities to get cozy at home or in a favorite cafe and knit, journal, draw and dream. Looking for inspiration? Here’s a partial list of craft suppliers, classes and groups:
• A-B Tech‘s Continuing Education program offers classes on making bags and jewelry, crocheting, knitting, quilting, sewing and more. Go to www.abtech.edu for a schedule.
• Beads and Beyond (19 Wall St., 254-7927) has beading supplies and offers classes.
• Chevron Trading Post & Bead Co. (40 Lexington Ave., 236-2323) has beads galore and workshops beginning in February.
• The Costume Shoppe (243 Haywood St., 252-8404) is the home of MakeMe! Fabrics and plans to host classes.
• Earth Guild (33 Haywood St., 255-7818) offers supplies for beading, knitting, leather working, spinning and weaving.
• Purl’s Yarn Emporium (51 College St., 253-2750) is a stop-off for knitting fanatics.
• Silver Armadillo (Westgate Shopping Ctr., 253-3020) carries thousands of seed, glass and wood beads.
• Stitch & Bitch, a crafters group, is held Wednesday nights, 7 to 9 p.m., at Sante Wine Bar in the Grove Arcade (1 Page Ave.). For info, contact Stacey at urbangypz@charter.net.
• Waechter’s Silk Shop (94 Charlotte St., 252-2131) features a sumptuous supply of fabrics, notions and plenty of sewing classes.
• Woolworth Walk (25 Haywood St., 254-9234) holds beginner and intermediate classes in silver smithing, wax casting and more. Studio workspace is also available for crafters who require minimal instructor input.
• Yarn Paradise (6 All Souls Crescent, 274-4213) carries designer and hand-dyed yarns.
