David Cornwell was a frequent witness to the kindness and humility that made so many people love Mona Cornwell.

A longtime employee at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College, Mona Cornwell died Tuesday. She was 53 and will be remembered as an advocate for the mentally ill and the homeless.

“She was a remarkable, compassionate woman and I will be forever astounded that she married me,” her husband, David Cornwell, said.

Cornwell, a former journalist and employee of A-B Tech since 1994, served as director of community relations and marketing for the college beginning in 2010. She died of complications from ovarian cancer diagnosed in February.
