A statement from Buncombe County Schools

From Buncombe County Schools:

Our hearts go out to the families impacted by Tuesday’s tragic event at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Our counseling teams are prepared to work with students or staff who may be struggling with this difficult news. Parents, please talk to your children and allow them space to express themselves. If you feel like you need additional support don’t hesitate to reach out to your school administration team.

We want to assure our community that safety is a top priority for Buncombe County Schools. Among our many security measures, all of our schools have multi camera buzz-in systems so visitors must connect with the front office via the camera system before they are allowed in the building. Additionally we have a wonderful partnership with the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office to provide school resource officers to act as mentors and provide support for our students, families, and staff. Additionally, the social emotional well-being of our students and families is a top priority, and we have implemented several programs in order to support the mental health of our community.

We must emphasize that keeping our entire community safe is a team effort. We appreciate the various partners who work with us to achieve that goal.
