Press release from Adrian Vassallo campaign:
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
It is with great pleasure that I announce my candidacy for Asheville City Council. After many years of community involvement, I feel the next step is to bring my experience and insight as both a volunteer and business person to City Council. I will run on a platform of bringing our community together, not keeping it divided. Asheville should be a place where everyone has access to opportunity, so it will take accountable leadership and all of us working together to achieve this vision for our city.
I have lived and worked in Asheville for twelve years and have been with the accounting firm of Dixon Hughes Goodman since 2005. In my role as a Business Development Executive, my primary focus is helping our employees expand their business so we can create more opportunities for our professionals to grow. From serving in leadership positions in the Asheville Downtown Association, Downtown Commission and United Way, and as an active member of my church, I know how important it is to give back to the community.
We are all acutely aware that Asheville has become one of the most desirable places in the country to visit and to live, and that desirability has led to many changes. The issues my campaign will address include smart development, affordable housing, equity, supporting our businesses, and job growth. I believe it is critical that our leadership address change and development fairly, with an eye toward a future with sustainable growth and density. I want to make sure that Asheville has clear development processes in place so that we maintain the city’s unique character.
I’m raising my two daughters here and I want them to live in a viable community where they’re able to find good jobs, raise their own families, and continue to enjoy the natural beauty and quality of life that Asheville has to offer.
Everyone is invited to my official campaign kickoff party on Thursday, June 8th, from 5 to 8pm at Asheville Pizza Company on 77 Coxe Avenue. The event is free, family friendly, and refreshments will be served.
I ask for your support,
Adrian Vassallo
