APD cites or arrests 62 people in special operation

News release from Asheville Police Department:

Detectives and officers with the Asheville Police Department cited or arrested 62 offenders during two recently conducted operations targeting quality-of-life issues in various locations of west Asheville, Tunnel Road, and downtown.

The operations were conducted to address ongoing complaints from residents and an outcry from community organizations. These operations addressed criminal behavior by repeat offenders. The detectives and officers staffed the operation were from nearly every division in the department and were working outside their normal shifts.

In total, 29 people were cited, and 33 were arrested in the operations, with a sum of 64 charges, 3 of which were felonies. Additionally, 28 warrants were served, 17 of which were felonies. One charge is still pending further investigation.

Future operations similar to this are being planned for downtown and other locations in the city.
