APD issues warrants in Deaverview homicide

Press release from Asheville Police Department:

(ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Nov. 11, 2016) – Asheville police have taken out two warrants in the homicide that occurred early Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016 at the Deaverview Apartments.

Warrants have been issued for Frederick N. Simpson Jr. and Travoscia H. Brown for 1st Degree Murder in the shooting death of 40-year-old Travis Dominick Mayfield.

The incident occurred in the early morning hours of Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016 when Simpson, Brown, and Mayfield got into an argument that swiftly escalated. Mayfield was found still alive with a gunshot wound to the back of the neck, he was transported to Mission Hospital where he died just over an hour later.

The public should use caution and not approach Simpson or Brown, and instead call 911 immediately. Both Simpson and Brown should be considered armed and dangerous.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information about the death of Mayfield or the whereabouts of Simpson and Brown is asked to call the Asheville Police Department at 828 252-1110 or Buncombe County Crime Stoppers at 828-255-5050.

Frederick Nathaniel Simpson Jr. is a 23 year old male born 10/28/1993. He is 5’7 tall, weighs 135 pounds, has black hair and brown eyes. He has a tattoos on his left forearm that say “DEDICATION” “CHAY” “HARD WORK”.

Travoscia Herbrell Brown is a 25 year old male born 1/31/1991. He is 5’10 tall, weighs between 150 and 180 pounds, has black hair and brown eyes. Brown has ties to the Charlotte NC area. He has a tattoo on his left wrist that says “LYNN”; tattoos on his left arm that say “DESTINY” and “RIP TREVON”; a tattoo on his right wrist that says “SHALIA & BRIONNA” and tattoos on his right arm of a $100.00 bill and ones on the same arm that say “BROWN” and “RIP DREAK”.
