UNC Asheville’s Family Business Forum addresses family conflicts and tax issues

Press release from UNC Asheville:

A pre-Thanksgiving session on the conflicts that can hamper family businesses, and a December session on legal and tax issues will be the final events of 2016 from UNC Asheville’s Family Business Forum.

Nov. 17 – Gap the Conflict – Marla and Leonard Chalnick of Stonebridge Connection, an Asheville-based consulting firm, will provide guidance on dealing with conflicts within family businesses. Marla, a licensed professional counselor, and Leonard, an attorney and CPA, are a husband and wife team specializing in helping manage the dynamic – and often conflicting – relationships between families and their family businesses. This pre-Thanksgiving session will begin with a skit to depict the sometimes absurd but real dramas that occur at holiday dinners when there are underlying conflicts. Following the skit, a panel of family businesses will share how they have dealt with holiday challenges. Gap the Conflict takes place on Thursday, Nov. 17, from 3- 5 p.m.

Dec. 1 – Closing the Legal and Tax Gap – Rollin Groseclose and Mickey Dale, both from Johnson Price Sprinkle, will discuss changes in tax laws and possible changes in tax law and policy following the election. Completing this session, attorneys Rebecca Crandall and Sabrina Rockoff of McGuire, Wood & Bissette will provide tips on protecting a brand, and on the new federal overtime pay rules. This session takes place on Thursday, Dec. 1 from 8-11 a.m.

Both sessions take place in UNC Asheville’s Sherrill Center, in the Mission Health Mountain View Room. Admission is free to Family Business Forum members and $49 for non-members, with online registration at https://fbf.unca.edu/register.
