Press release from the Asheville Police Department:
Detectives with the Asheville Police Department (APD) have identified and charged two people in the murder of a 17-year-old male on Nov. 30 on Gay Street.
Dionate Whitson, 18, of Asheville, has been charged with first-degree murder. The APD is seeking the public’s assistance to locate Whitson. He should be considered to be armed and dangerous.
Detectives have also charged a 16-year-old male with first-degree murder and are working alongside our partners at the North Carolina Department of Public Safety – Juvenile Justice Division to bring him into custody. Due to the age of the suspect, no additional information can be released.
If anyone encounters Dionate Whitson, they are encouraged to contact 9-1-1 immediately.
