APD seeks public’s help on identifying bus stop stabbing suspect

Press release from Asheville Police Department

Asheville Police responded to a physical altercation between two men on Haywood Street near Clingman Avenue early Tuesday morning that resulted in one man being stabbed in the neck and the other man fleeing the scene.

APD officers responded to a bus stop near downtown for a report of an assault with a deadly weapon around 5:30 a.m. on April 18. When they arrived on scene, they found one man with an apparent laceration to his neck that appeared non-life threatening; the victim refused treatment for his injuries.

The victim advised officers that the two men got into a physical altercation after the victim asked the suspect for a cigarette. The suspect pulled out a knife, started swinging, slashed the victim in the throat, and then left the scene prior to the officers’ arrival.

Police have very few details on the suspect except to say that those at the scene say he is a white male.

Police are asking for your help with any information that will lead to the identity of the suspect.  You can contact APD directly at (828) 252-1110.Or you send an anonymous tip using the TIP2APD smartphone application (search “Asheville PD” in your app store) or by texting TIP2APD to 847411.
