The Arts Council of Henderson County has awarded $12,739 in Grassroots funding to nine local organizations. The North Carolina Arts Council Grassroots Arts Program is designed to support nonprofit organizations whose purpose is to promote and develop diverse cultural arts programming. The community panel evaluated 11 applications based on artistic quality, community impact, ability to plan and implement the project, and stability and fiscal responsibility of the organization. Grants were awarded in varying amounts from $600 to $2,970.
Recipients of Grassroots funding for the 2014-15 cycle include: Art League of Henderson County, Blue Ridge Community College Music by the Lake Series, Carolina Concert Choir, Friends of Carl Sandburg at Connemara, Hendersonville Chamber Music, Hendersonville Symphony Children’s Choir, Hendersonville Symphony Orchestra, Latino Advocacy Coalition, and Storytelling Education & Arts Programs, Inc. (STEAP).
The Arts Council of Henderson County serves as the North Carolina Arts Council’s Designated County Partner in awarding these grants to local organizations for arts programs in Henderson County. The grants are designed to provide support for quality arts programs that reach and impact a broad cross-section of the county’s citizens and youth. The Grassroots Arts Program ensures opportunities for citizens to experience the arts in their own communities.

The Arts Council of Henderson County is a community organization that promotes, advocates for, and nurtures the arts in Henderson County and Western North Carolina. The Arts Council is located at 401 North Main Street, 3rd floor, (entrance on 4th Avenue West), in Hendersonville.
The Arts Council is supported in part by the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Cultural Resources; several funds administered by the Community Foundation of Henderson County, Henderson County Government, Henderson County Tourism Development Authority, and the City of Hendersonville.
